Introduction to the Spa Experience aboard Windstar Cruise ships
On each of Windstar Cruises six ships you will find a spa, which is known as World Spa by Windstar. Whilst the size of the spas and their facilities differs between the slightly larger motor yachts and the smaller sailing yachts, each has a sauna and treatment rooms for body, facial, hair, nail and Chinese medicine services.
In this article I will run through all of prices offered on spa treatments onboard the Windstar vessels. The employees who operate the spa and fitness facilities aren’t actually Windstar cruise employees but work for a company who provides spa services to a wide variety of cruise lines. I’ve had several massages onboard and they were just as good as any land-based ones but they were pricier. When the 18% service charge has been applied I find the spa treatment prices to be typically double of what you find in a decent hotel in a Western country like the US or UK. That being said a massage is a great way to unwind and relax on a sea day.
Look out for special offers and promotions, the spa manager will offer quite aggressive promotional pricing if the spa is quieter than usual and on popular port days where most passengers opt to go ashore.

The Spa Raffle
On the first day of every Windstar cruise each guest will have the opportunity to take part in the spa raffle. When you collect your room key cards a member of the spa team will give each guest a complimentary raffle ticket which you must take and deposit in the raffle box, which is usually located in the show lounge or spa. The raffle is a bit of fun, but a well orchestrated opportunity to sell guests on spa treatments. Usually at around 5 PM on embarkation day the raffle draw will take place in the show lounge. In between drawing the prizes each member of the spa + fitness staff will introduce themselves and explain what their speciality is within the spa. On my most recent cruise on the Star Legend, there were six prizes in the draw, with each ranging from $50 to $150. The draw usually takes 30 minutes depending on how hard the spa team try and upsell you. During the raffle draw the spa manager will give each person who attended a promotion, for my ‘Legendary Winter in the Mediterranean’, this was a reduction of massage treatments from $299 to $199.
It is worth remembering that depositing your raffle ticket in the box isn’t enough, you or at least one person from your cabin must be in attendance. On previous cruises I have witnessed someone lose out on a $200 prize because they didn’t attend the draw.
Spa Facilities
The spa facilities varies from ship to ship. In 2010 Windstar spent $250 million upgrading the Star-class motor yachts as part of their Star Plus initiative. This involved stretching the three ships by cutting them in half and inserting a new midship block. One public area that greatly benefitted from this was the spa that significantly increased in size with new facilities.
If spa facilities are very important to you I would only recommend cruising on one of the Star-class ships; Star Breeze, Star Legend and Star Pride as the spa facility offering is quite weak on the Wind-class ships.

In addition to the hair salon and treatment rooms each of these ships boasts a modern sauna, steam room, therapy shower, heated loungers as well as male and female changing rooms. All of these facilities are new or have been extensively renovated.

Windstar World Spa Beauty Treatment List and Prices
In addition to the facial and massage therapies the Windstar spa team also offers a wide range of beauty treatments, ranging from hair services to nails, teeth whitening, waxing and gentlemen’s grooming.
The beauty treatment prices are much more reasonable in my opinion and are close to shore based prices. These are a great way to get some pampering in if you have some onboard credit that you need to use up.
